Cybersecurity in AWS for Energy - Securing Energy

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive cloud, offering over 200 services from data centers globally. Millions of customers use AWS to lower costs, become more agile, and innovate faster. With the rapidly changing energy industry, energy companies need to innovate through the latest cloud technologies such as AI, ML, edge computing.

Cybersecurity in AWS for Energy

  • AWS is reinventing the energy industry through innovative cloud technologies and comprehensive digital solutions. The energy systems of the future allow organizations to put their data to work and provide tools to uncover insights that will help optimize energy operations and accelerate innovation. The eBook looks at how robust cybersecurity underpins energy success and reliability, and how to build a secure, resilient business and operational infrastructure.

Securing Energy

  • The eBook reveals why the AWS Cloud provides the strong foundation, tooling, and services that the industry needs to support a resilient global energy supply. Safety and security drive performance and productivity. The eBook provides a snapshot of recent incidents across the energy sector.

Cybersecurity Risk Landscape and AWS Difference

  • S&P Energy Sentinel registered 45 cybersecurity incidents targeting energy companies between 2017 and 2022, with 13 occurring in 2022. Oil assets and infrastructure were the biggest targets, accounting for a third of all incidents since 2017. Electricity networks were the next most targeted, accounting for over a quarter of all incidents.
  • Over 10% of all cyber incidents target the Energy Sector. AWS Cloud provides a highly secure, scalable, and reliable platform for energy companies to deploy applications and manage data securely.
  • AWS operates under a shared security responsibility model, where AWS is responsible for the security of the underlying cloud infrastructure and the customer is responsible for securing the workloads deployed in AWS. AWS services offer the ability to encrypt data at rest and in transit, with features such as platform, applications, identity & access management, operating system, network & firewall configuration, networking traffic protection, service-side encryption, and client-side data encryption.
